A: Toyota Expands Tundra Recall
Published Mar 10, 2010
* Toyota expands a recall of the 2000-'03 Tundra to cover all trucks in the U.S.
* The recall is to fix a corrosion problem with the Tundra's frame.
* Initially, only 20 cold-weather states were included in the recall.
DETROIT — Toyota is expanding a recall of the 2000-'03 Tundra to cover all vehicles in the U.S., the automaker said on Wednesday. The recall is to fix part of the truck's frame that could corrode.
Excessive corrosion of the rear crossmember could cause spare tires or the gas tank to drop off the vehicle. The original recall was announced last November and covered 110,000 trucks sold in 20 cold-weather states. Toyota initially said exposure to road salt could cause the corrosion.
"Now a special service campaign will be launched covering all 2000-'03 model-year Tundra vehicles that were originally sold in and currently registered in the remaining 30 states," wrote Curt McAllister, a Toyota spokesman, in an e-mailed message to Inside Line. "Owner notification will commence in mid-March."
McAllister was not able to say how many more Tundras will be added to the original recall in this case.
Word of the expanded Toyota recall comes during a hectic week for Toyota as it struggles to cope with the fallout from massive recalls of its vehicles and the ensuing blow to its reputation.
In its original description of the Tundra corrosion recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that "excessive corrosion of the rear crossmember may cause the separation of the spare tire stowed under the truck bed, which would present a road hazard that could cause a crash. Also, corrosion of the rear crossmember could affect the rear brake lines and the proportioning valve, resulting in diminished braking capability."
As of November 16, 2009, Toyota was advising owners of the affected Tundras to remove the spare tire from under the vehicle "until a remedy can be obtained. Dealers will inspect the rear crossmember and related components, including the brake lines, and replace them if necessary," according to NHTSA's recalls summary of the problem. "If the crossmember does not need to be replaced, it will be sprayed with a corrosion protection compound." It noted that "multiple visits to the dealer may be required."
Although Toyota did not explain why it is expanding the Tundra recall, a check of NHTSA's complaint database shows that consumers are still griping about the truck months after the original recall — including one who lives in Florida for part of the year.
"I own a 2003 Toyota Tundra that has severe frame rust," wrote one consumer. "Big pieces of metal are flaking off. Sooner or later, some component attachment point will fail. The rest of the underneath, and truck as a whole, is rust free. I religiously wash the underside of the truck. There is a defect with these frames."

Q: how can i replace the back glass on my toyota tundra?
I recently shattered a portion of the back glass on my toyota tundra (the right panel next to the sliding door), and i need it replaced as soon as possible. Please share any ideas on: who i might contact for a replacement glass panel, if it's possible to install it myself, and anything else that might help. Thanks
A: I broke MINE also. Take it to a glass shop. They have to replace the whole thing. This is not easy to do CORRECTLY. It will leak if YOU do it.
Glass shops have cheaper replacements than Toyota dealers.
About 600. if you have Toyota replace it
About 300 for a glass shop replacement.
Q: Would Toyota Tundra TRD Bilstein Shocks work on the front end of my 88 4runner with IFS?
I found a good deal for a set of Bilstein shocks from Toyota Tundra TRD package. And I just recently lifted my 1988 4runner about 2.5" so i need new shocks. Would these work for my rig? Need answer ASAP! Thanks!
the shocks are from a 2008 Tundra TRD kit.
A: Some specs are different on models, you can contact auto parts store and have them check both years and see if there is a difference if there is then no if yes then go to town and change them.
Q: how do i remove the door panel on a 2005 toyota tundra?
i want to replace the speakers in my 05 toyota tundra and im not sure how to remove the door panel?
A: Alright, I've had several cars in my lifetime, son, and I've found a trend in most car door panels.
They all have screws that you can noticeable see.
They all have screws that you cannot see, hidden by a cap.
They all have snap on buttons INSIDE the panel.
So, I'll give you a generalized idea of how to remove A car door panel, however, it might differ for a Toyota Tundra.
Make sure you've unplugged the negative cord off of the battery before you do this, for safety reasons.
Start by removing all the visible screws.
Once you've done that, follow through with the hidden screws. The caps might be more conspicuous from car to car, but they are usually a square plastic cap that looks like it doesn't belong with the rest of the shapes of the door. Remove the screws underneath.
Most cars will have screws in very specific areas. Those are:
At the bottom of the panels, usually 3 or 4.
At the door opening latch. (or behind the opening latch).
And at the grip handle.
Once you've removed ALL the screws, the door panel should snap off. Do so, but be careful because the panel is still connected to whatever wiring you have (power locks, windows, etc.). Disconnect those, and the panels should come right off.
Reverse the process once you're done.
Q: What should I put on my Toyota Tundra to up performance?
I just got my first car a '06 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 D.C. 2wd TRD and I'm looking to put some money into it towards performance (about $500) I was thinking either a new set of JBA headers or a K&N cold air intake either 63 or 77 series any other ideas? Thanks
A: the k&n cold air is really cool, gives it a boost and has a nice sound. I had one in my tacoma and the engine just loved the extra air and it sounded awesome, exhaust is a must also, put some good brakes on it and maybe lower it since its 2wd, it will look sick!!!
Q: What is best the best Exhaust for Toyota Tundra<><>?>?>?>?>?
I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra V6 I want to put an exhaust. What is a good one to put on I see there is a lot of brands, but whats the best for this specific Truck
A: i think i have the same engine in my 2001 taco the 3.4 v6 and i just have a pipe where the muffler use to be it sounds very good with out it but if your going for power try flowmatser my friends have them and are very happy with them

Q: Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra Truck Question Please Help?
For the Chevrolet Silverado what is the difference between the 1500, 2500, and the 3500 and which one do you like more? and what kind of truck should I get a Chevrolet or a Toyota Tundra?
Also for the chevrolet Silverado what is the difference between the WT, LT, and the LTZ?
I do not want a ford or any other truck I specifically said Chevrolet and Toyota
A: WT, LT, and LTZ are different trim levels.
WT ( work truck) is the base trim.
LT is a higher trim level.
LTZ is the top trim with leather, power this, power that....
1500 = 1/2 ton
2500 = 3/4 ton
3500 = 1 ton
They tell you the payload.
They originally indicated the maximum payload of the vehicle, however modern pickups can typically carry far more than that.
The Tundra and the Silverado 1500 are excellent 1/2 trucks. I would suggest you drive both. The truck market is more competitive than ever. People tell you "Toyota can't make a real truck" or "American trucks are made like crap" are fanboys. I've driven every truck on the market. They're all impressive and have tons to offer.
Q: is toyota sienna comptable w toyota tundra seatbelt/airbag 2003?
I have a 2003 toyota tundra, and I need seat belt/airbag for it. I need to know what is compatible with it?
A: No the airbag for a Sienna is not compatible. You will need to get one for an 2003-2004 tundra or a sequoia
Q: What is Better a Toyota Tundra or a Nissan Titan?
my dad is buying a truck for him for work, need suggestions on whether he should get a titan or tundra.
A: Toyota has had a lot of quality problems with the Tundra. It has been recalled several times, it rusts out prematurely and there have been several major mechanical problems with the truck.
If you must buy foreign buy the Nissan but if you really want a durable work truck buy a Ford or a Chevy.
